Ignorance is not a defense. And we have advised companies seeking to produce their annual statements required by the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015. Green building has only very recently begun to emphasize the social equity component of the triple bottom line. Modern slavery exists in every industry, in every country in the world.

The BRE Ethical Labour Sourcing Standard can be seen as responding to Great Britain’s Modern Slavery Act 2015 , which sets a basic benchmark for ethical business practice in the sourcing of labour and contains significant measures aimed at preventing forced labour and human trafficking.

Effective for facilities placed into service between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2015. This program allows an approved business to offer an income tax credit to investors purchasing an equity investment in the business. The credit is capped at the lesser of $15 million or 25% of costs to establish the facility.

Companies must be less than 5-years old; have an annual payroll between $100,000 and $1 million; show proof of an equity investment of at least $250,000; pay at least 150 percent of the lesser of the state or county average hourly wage where the business is located; and meet requisite payroll thresholds. Employees must be Arkansas taxpayers.
