DebunkTheBIM: How well can you tell? (?If the drawings in front-of.

DebunkTheBIM

How well can you tell? (…If the drawings in front-of you have been produced via 2D or 3D methods?). I’m often asked: have the documents been coordinated? The moment you are exposed to drawings (hard or soft copies) you become extremely vulnerable to them. Reconstructing drawing-sets and the case of the 'G.

I’m onto some rose-coloured BIM issues…and here is a tip for ArchiCAD users as a bonus

structures rarely made sense to people that happily documented everything in black on white. I said, that colours could play a large part in demystifying AEC documentations for clients, contractors and everyone else involved. Applying a range of bold colours to represent different types of concrete (grey!)

Please don’t clean up my wall intersections.

I should start with a disclaimer: I model in Archicad 13; That is whenever I need to assess something quickly and am not constrained by other project-needs nor the limitations of the software itself. So, what I am about to write may no longer be an issue in Archicad 14, nor the other modelling packages people use.

PDFs and BIM: A trilogy of posts investigating what the PDF format’s role may be in strategies transitioning the industry to BIM? First part: PDFs within current AEC – Important yet neglected?

DebunkTheBIM

This approach is somewhat surprising considering that in most contemporary construction contracts PDF’s as the digital representations of drawings have often higher standing than model files or even DWGs. It is being treated as something one puts up with until something better comes along.

Being so bitter about Autodesk is to do a bit with my abstract being rejected by the Australian Revit Users’ Conference. I never quite got the point of existence of Vectorworks and have largely stayed away from Microstation.

Keeping your PDF’s in check – an absolute necessity for successful BIM-ming on any scale

DebunkTheBIM

I am a hands-on modeller and my speed, accuracy and ability to deduct useful information based on the model is highly reliant on how I can make use of the hundreds and thousands of PDF documents that are available for the stage/project I am working on. ArchiCAD imports PDF’s as Drawings (as opposed to images) 2.

Here is why Autodesk’s monopoly over the Global AEC is not good, not even for Autodesk:

DebunkTheBIM

Almost, I state – as the non-graphical data management is still somewhat outside its claws, i.e. project, people and time document management. On the lines of any BIM is better than CAD and any CAD is better than hand drawing? note: my daughter is going through one of those Uni courses). And how about the ‘old and wise’ ones?
