First thing, first: “The survey asked a series of questions to establish current usage of both 2D and 3D CAD, as a precursor to determining likely future engagement with Building Information Modelling (BIM).” … actually, this was the question: “When producing CAD drawings, which of the following tools do you mainly use?”

I started learning technical drafting on my father’s drawing machine, the type with two rulers fixed at right angle to each other but adjustable to any angle through a button. (he Ten years ago I amazed the local Archicad supplier by a colourful CV fully prepared on Plotmaker. It was totally inappropriate.

Traditionally, a value that was represented on a drawing may not correctly corresponded with the value within the specification simply due to a ‘typo’ An example being where a ’60 minute fire door’ has been recorded on the drawing but has been recorded as ’90 minutes fire rating’ within the specification.

Even if I consider the vastly superior ArchiCAD and the Bentley/Microstation range, all the more so Tekla and everything Trimble had collected over the last year or two - these tools, all together are still ‘so last century’. I had my first training in Revit in 2004 and get around it OK. Although, it is.

This workaround involves drawing a repeating detail line (with imported text) on top of a simple detail line. Goto Drafting. Now draw a detail line in any view of your project. Draw your repeating detail over your new detail line as though tracing the detail line. ArchiCAD vs Revit. Marathon Drafting.

We decided that we also wanted to be able to sort the sheets in our project browser (and our drawing lists) by Submittal Package. and check the category Drawing Sheets. Drawing List. Leave the name Drawing List. The Drawing List on our coversheet shows ALL the drawings from ALL the different packages.
