I consider myself to be a model-based construction information practitioner (shortened to a ‘BIM- meddler’) rather than an ‘expert’ or even ‘specialist’ Saturday, April 7, 2012. Archicad at its best). Reconstructing drawing-sets and the case of the 'G. Archicad at its best).
CostX® is the most recognized BIM estimating solution to look at and takeoff from 3D/BIM models (including IFC). The software is compatible with the leading 3d design packages like Revit®, Archicad®, Microstation®, Tekla® and Google Sketchup® as well as all standard 2D drawings. Measurements are focused on all views.
After all, most construction contracts are still based on drawings and there is a belief that ‘we build off drawings’. Yet it is undisputable, that a large percentage of those drawings are created in a model-based software. For better or worse, most of building related data lives in model-based environments.
I consider myself to be a model-based construction information practitioner (shortened to a ‘BIM- meddler’) rather than an ‘expert’ or even ‘specialist’ Monday, April 9, 2012. How well can you tell? (…If the drawings in front-of you have been produced via 2D or 3D methods?). Type of hybrid?
I consider myself to be a model-based construction information practitioner (shortened to a ‘BIM- meddler’) rather than an ‘expert’ or even ‘specialist’ Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Reconstructing drawing-sets and the case of the Great Pretenders. Reconstructing drawing-sets and the case of the 'G.
I should start with a disclaimer: I model in Archicad 13; That is whenever I need to assess something quickly and am not constrained by other project-needs nor the limitations of the software itself. So, what I am about to write may no longer be an issue in Archicad 14, nor the other modelling packages people use.
Still, that has not deterred me to consistently use the colour ‘red’ on my construction models as a warning sign, highlighting that an element is either under-defined or wrongly defined by the design consultants or others in charge of it. Model based communication supports this idea splendidly.
It needs an ‘entree’ before I can publish: It is about basic modelling: I create a column.* Of course that would not quite work for the drawing outputs (as beams have to look differently on plans than say walls.) I am not too concerned about the drawings. I wrote today’s post (working title: The 2 essential BIM gizmos) and.
It provides a credible picture of present day attitudes and progress made towards Building Information Modelling (BIM) in New Zealand.” Autodesk products are conveniently bundled together – not so ArchiCAD and Vectorworks (owned by the same company: Nemetschek). Note the words ‘on behalf’ and ‘credible’. Then, look at the chart itself!
This approach is somewhat surprising considering that in most contemporary construction contracts PDF’s as the digital representations of drawings have often higher standing than model files or even DWGs. Why are there no more efforts made to guide PDF users through thousands of drawings by the originators?
I started learning technical drafting on my father’s drawing machine, the type with two rulers fixed at right angle to each other but adjustable to any angle through a button. (he Ten years ago I amazed the local Archicad supplier by a colourful CV fully prepared on Plotmaker. Photoshop to make textures for my BIM models.
The long overdue third instalment of my ‘The role of PDFs in BIM’ trilogy Let me start with a long-winded explanation on, how this post is not supposed to be an argument based on the question of ‘why would one want to import one (or hundreds) of PDF file(s) into any working BIM model?’. Now, can I get on with exploring PDFs in BIM models?
Almost thirty years ago, I was first talking about computer modelling of buildings. I documented full houses in 3D ArchiCAD 20 years ago in our design studio, while she looked after our children. I designed and modelled iconic commercial buildings in Teamwork Architecture when we moved to a bigger town 15 years ago.
I consider myself to be a model-based construction information practitioner (shortened to a ‘BIM- meddler’) rather than an ‘expert’ or even ‘specialist’ Friday, April 20, 2012. Reconstructing drawing-sets and the case of the 'G. Archicad at its best). The entertainment value of BIM.
I consider myself to be a model-based construction information practitioner (shortened to a ‘BIM- meddler’) rather than an ‘expert’ or even ‘specialist’ Tuesday, March 27, 2012. Archicad and Tekla are old enough to know this. With some care, I was able to export useable IFC files from ArchiCAD.
Commonly they offer the ability to view BIM models of various origins, maybe combine them, rotate, zoom, filter information. Some have mark-up tools, others provide fancy gadgets for tracking model-revisions. The models are usually stored on remote servers, they live in the Cloud, so to speak. Some are better than others.

Traditionally, a value that was represented on a drawing may not correctly corresponded with the value within the specification simply due to a ‘typo’ An example being where a ’60 minute fire door’ has been recorded on the drawing but has been recorded as ’90 minutes fire rating’ within the specification.

I get regular updates through my FB page on how the big event of The Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling (HKIBIM) planned for the 13 th of December is shaping up. I had my first training in Revit in 2004 and get around it OK. My biggest problem is not that Revit is a ‘dog of a software’. Although, it is.

The contrast of texture is a method that draws attention to a particular point or place of a design by the texture. Visual weight is the property that gives elements in a design an ability to draw attention. Whereas if an element has a high visual weight that means that this element has the probability of drawing eyes towards it.

In an Architectural Record article " Getting on Board with Building Information Modeling " Larry Flynn describes a Data Manager as someone "responsible for coordinating the various computer files and models that are integrated into a BIM." In our office Data Managers are starting to inspect models for proper construction.
This isnt necessarily a bad habit as long as they are using detail lines and not model lines (detail lines are view specific but model lines will show up everywhere). The Revit 3D model is just a place to start. Even advanced users use detail lines, filled regions, and detail components to refine their drawings.
you can draw a simple building and link in a simple building (by shared coordinates) and move these two icons around a bit (clipped and unclipped) to see how the two models react or. ArchiCAD vs Revit. here is the simplest way I can put it: 1. There are now 3 coordinate systems in Revit. Clipping the Project Base Point.
We have one model that was started in Revit before we knew any of the limitations of Revit. To add to the complexity, the as-built drawings we had on file were not accurate to the true construction of the existing structure because the original architect had improvised the design during construction. ArchiCAD vs Revit.
Some food for thought: Could it (read that as "it will") be better to let the walls be modeled as they will be built (with dead spaces in between), rather than using in-place walls that simply mimic old methodologies, like CAD or Hand drawn lines filled with poche or hatching? It is more suited to a model that is about graphics.
