I’ve been besotted by ArchiCAD’s ‘zone tool’ lately. I had not always been a fan of it, early in my career, seriously disliked it even, mainly because of its ugly, big zone-stamp. That was when I was still working and thinking as an ‘architect’ and the aesthetics of the drawings I produced were high in life’s priorities.
For years I’ve been consistently preaching that BIM can be started at any point of a construction project lifecycle and it can be successful. In all mainstream BIM strategies, FM models sit at the end of the chain of Ds – numbered from the 6 th D onwards, following the 3 spatial Ds, cost and time.
This is the third blog post in a series that discusses the advantages of working on concrete projects in a BIM process for structural engineers. The beauty of Revit is that it allows for both approaches, enabling all structural engineers to work in a BIM environment connected to architects, MEP engineers, and the extended project team.
The study centered upon the development of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the UK construction industry and its pontential affect on the role of the client’s construction manager (CM). BIM in the UK was not as advanced as claimed in the literature. However, the theories behind the culture of BIM can be dated to 1975, when C.M
Despite BIM having been around for 3+ decades, it is by no means embraced by the global AEC. Most of the industry is uneasy about the BIM thing, yet there is rarely meaningful discussion about it. Most of the industry is uneasy about the BIM thing, yet there is rarely meaningful discussion about it. my respect is with them).
The flexible interface is designed to provide the necessary tools for accessing and managing the documents that you need, when you need them, especially Construction Plans and drawings. update hyperlinked documents, and create zone awareness for markups with Spaces. Use Links to easily create and.
What is BIM? A multi-dimensional tool, Building Information Modelling (BIM) involves generating a visual model of the building which also manages data about it, at the design stage, throughout the construction phase and during its working life. NBS National BIM Report 2013. Introduction. Download report. IFC/COBie Report 2012.
What is BIM clash detection? BIM clash detection is a process that identifies and addresses conflicts among at least two construction models in a virtual environment. What are the benefits of BIM clash detection? Clash detection has been around for some time. And while you can technically carry out the process manually—i.e.,

National BIM Library generic content release 2. BIM objects are as much about the embedded data and information as they are about the spaces and dimensions that they represent graphically. The National BIM Library includes objects with sophisticated and consistent graphical and parametric control. (Source: [link].
BIM authorizing estimating software can enhance the estimating process to a great extent. Building Information Modeling (BIM) generates a complete digital model of the building that can produce exact bill of material and cost estimate along with coordinated drawings and details. Construction Cost Estimating Blog.
To achieve the result in the third image its is all about how you draw the arc that creates the sphere. In this case the differing result is because the normal(s) of the surface that make the void are different based on the direction of the arc, which is controlled by how you draw it. All Things BIM. The essence of my response via email: HVAC Zones are meant to combine spaces into larger more coherent collections for engineering purposes. I have recently had to use room separation lines as the only way to create rudimentary FM schedules to allocate users and equipment to a desk/zone. Aaron Maller. Joe Carey said.
I particularly like how he separates "Architectural" drawing into three distinct categories. I didnt print something out, draw on it, scan it and e-mail it, nor did I just draw something from scratch. Labels: art , drawing , new technology , practice , tools. All Things BIM. People with successful careers possess many admirable qualities, but one common denominator that these folks have is their willingness to push themselves out of their comfort zone. As for instance at some stage in preconstruction and bidding, the TeamLink Portal is applied to capture project drawings, accumulate RFPs and facilitates subcontractors and suppliers to present pricing remotely. Had a user come to me with an off problem last week that had me stumped until I got into the file. Rotate the view based on the angle. Well, that did not work. .
While working on my bachelor’s, I gravitated toward the emerging technologies of Building Information Modeling (BIM). I implemented the new tech at a small, but nimble architecture firm first, while finishing school, and then helped a large firm of 500 architects with their BIM implementation fresh out of college.
Among these technologies the most important are online plan rooms, bid management software, takeoff and estimating software, building information modeling (BIM), and cloud-based project management software. BIM can enhance the speed of takeoff work. Now the contractors are using 4D BIM extensively. Blog Archive. ► 2012. (18).

However, each was unique owing to variables such as site conditions, lot size, zoning restrictions, and anticipated demand. We can utilize technology such as Building Information Modeling ( BIM ) to facilitate this design process and to ensure the design aligns with the owners expectations before building commences. This workaround involves drawing a repeating detail line (with imported text) on top of a simple detail line. Now draw a detail line in any view of your project. First off (before you get upset at my comments) You guys are doing great work for Revit and BIM!!! I completely understand the desire to replicate your graphic standards and the like but in-place families mostly detract from a BIM, rather than add to them. especially as documents became a secondary deliverable to the coordinated BIM.
The office I worked for didnt use Revit for developing working drawings but I do remember wishing that I could add text to linestyles (for phone, elec, gas, etc) and I remember having trouble understanding phases but I got a lot of help from users on Zoogdesign (now AUGI).
