I was teaching geology in Tucson at the time and living in a house that functioned miserably in the Tucson climate. There was a little squib in there about a couple, Steve and Nina MacDonald, who were building a straw bale house in Hilo, New Mexico. It was an octagonal house with a sand floor with rugs put over it.
