We called it the ‘dressing up’ game; views from loosely modelled buildings were isolated and decked out with hatches, dimensions, labels and notes. Depending on the tidiness of the host model, a cover fill was also employed to various extents. One practice I used to see a lot has almost disappeared on largish projects. I am not.

What I observe in the industry still backs my view, that project delivery where one party does the ‘thinking part’ and another the ‘documenting’ is risky. Just look at a typical ‘design team’: Most BIM presentations start with a picture of a round-table and various team-members gathered around the ‘project’. And costly.

This is a graphical representation of a basic BOM; Orbit the model, identify a particular element (bracket) by name, find how many there are in the project and where; Do this once using the table, then do it directly from the model; Navigate, turn layers on/off, take dimensions, cut sections, make the building transparent, add a 3D comment.
