Revit 2016 has both Mental Ray and Autodesk Raytracer options available to us when we decide to render via our desktop (not using Cloud Rendering). Unfortunately it takes quite some time to plug in and unplug something so intrinsic to how Revit works. Raytracer’s Draft and Medium was much more consistent than for Mental Ray.

Digital Drafting Whether you liked AutoCAD, MicroStation, or whatever. (I We still drafted, but with digital lines. A Revit project has only one model. Further, it does not matter which view of the model you modify, all views update because they are all referencing the same thing. I have never crashed Revit… Ever.

Sure Revit is fun and exciting, but its just a tool, and there is always another coming. So if "Revits" replacement does not really interest me (because I dont think there really will be one perse).

Here's a few things that have come up lately regarding importing dwg data: Revit imports from Model Space unless there is nothing in Model Space. Revit only recognizes the World Coordinate System (WCS) Revit doesn't "see" AutoCAD points, doesn't snap to them, you'll see them but can't "use" them.

Do you want to rotate a model pattern that you've applied to a surface? You can not rotate Drafting patterns by this method. Place your mouse over any line of the pattern and TAB through until the line you want is highlighted. Then just use the rotate command.

Well, when you're in the family editor you can draw symbolic lines, model lines or reference lines. Model lines will show in ALL views because they are part of the model. We also use model lines as a quick way to "represent detail" in some families. When you're in the project you can draw detail lines or model lines.

This might be obvious but you can apply changes to views much faster if you don't have any views open that show model elements. You can alter a view for the first floor but if another floor's view is open Revit seems to spend time thinking about that one too, even mention the linked files.

As such I understand that this view type is intended as the last stop or end of the road with regard to drafting up a detail, for detailing not modeling with.

In this case James mentions using the Display Model setting for a view to only show the annotation (2D stuff) that's been added. It's brother (or sister) Insert Views from File allows us to harvest drafting views, schedules and sheets that contain either. The intention being to then copy/paste that useful stuff to another project.

We should've stuck with pen & paper until a tool like Revit or Archicad or Tri-Forma came along. At least when we were drafting on paper (or whatever) a person really thought about what it was they were going to represent when that line was drawn, because no one wanted to redraw.

I primarily find myself wishing for Create Similar when I'm creating symbolic or model lines in the family editor. I try hard to not use just lines in a project, favoring line-based families instead.yes even in Drafting View details. That written if Create Similar worked on them in the project I wouldn't complain.

Each drafting view we imported had a copy of the break line family. By the time anyone noticed, the project model had “Break Line (1)” through “Break Line (22)”. Revit sees multiple versions of the same file being loaded from different local files (users) and seeks to protect them by renaming the other versions it encounters.
