It’s time to revisit another prediction I made last year in my blog post Commercial Constructions Trends to Watch in 2010 — Outside the Big Box. According to my blog, I said in 2010 we should “Expect to see new innovation in store concepts, especially when it comes to capitalizing on vacated commercial space in prime locations…In 2010, we should see more creative re-use of empty commercial space …”.

. I love to see competitors’ proposals. Proposals are competitions, make no mistake about it. Professional sports teams scout their competition to see what plays and tactics they use. So it makes sense for AEC firms to do the same. If you can look at your competitors’ proposals, do so…with one caveat. Make sure it’s legal. Don’t take any of this as legal advice, just common sense suggestions.

In today’s economic climate, most retail development firms, shopping center landlords, office building owners and especially general commercial construction contractors would be wise to take a step back and ask themselves if they are leaving any money on the table when it comes to new business and servicing their customers. For example, we’ve been able to enhance our general construction services and stay ahead of commercial construction trends by doing the following for our clients: 1.

The project is funded by the City but they are hiring a developer to propose a plan and oversee the project. They are looking for groups or organization that have experience with similar types of urban development.

. Us marketing folks hate dealing with numbers. I calculate numbers more than I would like. And like many marketers, I get nervous about making a mistake. One slight mistake in the numbers can cause a huge headache, and we all make mistakes. This week one of our marketers took a stab at calculating numbers for a proposal. She asked me to double check her numbers, so I took out my calculator and started tapping.

There is an alternative that streamlines this process, has built-in exception reporting and makes reconciliations a breeze.
Construction will begin right after Labor Day on our client’s vacation cottage in Blodgett’s Landing on Lake Sunapee. The new cottage was designed within the Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act (CSPA) guidelines and the historic nature of Blodgett Landing’s architectural style. The cottage design has its roots in the Landing’s Victorian influenced architecture; steep gables, expansive porches and lacy "gingerbread" trim all have been distilled into a clean modern interpretation of the area’s
I like to write the cover letter first. Many folks leave it for last. I have tried that. But there is a risk that it will not get the attention it deserves. Yet, the score reflects a continued decline in demand for design services as any score above 50 indicates an increase in billings.
