That tells you a lot about my life I guess. Still, before you call me a hypocrite (i.e. encouraging software tribalism) – here is a challenge: I’ll show you mine (Archicad marquee), you show me yours (spatial filtering device); I use the marquee a lot – to examine parts of the building I am interested in. Sections can do the job too, the marquee will get me there with fewer steps and faster; I treat it a bit like an ice-cream scoop, or a surgeon’s knife, depending on the stage of the job I am in

As they say, “excuses only satisfy those who make them.” Instead, when faced with delivering bad news to a client, try responding using the following process: 1. Once, when our eldest daughter was quite young she picked a book and asked her father to read it; It was a Hungarian story book (her mother is Hungarian) and my husband said something like this: ‘Sorry, this is in Hungarian, I can’t read it’. The 3-and-a-bit year old offered helpfully: ‘Shall I bring your Hungarian glasses?’ I daily battle numerous ‘real’ and computer languages myself and sometimes think of this little episode.

. I was sitting in a Detroit airport waiting for a plane to Atlanta. A well dressed gentleman sat next to me. I asked if he would watch my bag as I got a snack. He said, “sure.” So I went and got my snack and came back with a bottle of water for him. We got to talking. He was an advertising exec who worked with McDonalds, Ford, and other large companies.

This is: A LINE This is: A WINDOW. (It can sing and dance.) Goes the BIM rhetoric. Meaning that the line is dumb and no-good and the singing, dancing window (digital object) is a clever creature. that will fix everything that ever goes wrong in the AEC industry. (the silver bullet) I use this introduction in one form or other often too – though am conscious that it is greatly oversimplifying the issue.

Responding to a post at RevitForum I created this brief video that shows how I used the Scale tool to change the size of a image file in Revit. The image in the video is based on a sketch that Cyril Verley used in his Revit training curriculum books for several years. I believe it is based on a Richard Meier building. The video describes: Select the image Click the Scale tool (I keep calling it Resize, the old name) Click the Origin (or first "known" point) Click the Second Point (second "known"
