For Architects, Contractors and Engineers a cupcake reminds us of our childhood, the birthday parties you attended and the Lincoln Logs, Erector Sets, Legos and Tonka Trucks you received. For the young women of today it might be their Architech Barbie. Every time you win a bid, finish a project, have designs accepted or get plans approved you relive these moments.

Low Walls

Revit OpEd

I was positive I wrote about this in the past but I can't find a post in the pile of posts I've made since the end of 2004. I suppose it could be buried in a post at AUGI. If a wall is less than six feet (or 2000mm, no not exactly equal to six feet) it will NOT use the Cut line weight, it will only show using the Projection line weight. You can "force" Revit to show it as Cut by setting the Top Constraint to the level above and using a negative Top Offset value to drop it back down to it's inten

Pebbles or breadcrumbs: Navigation through a set of typical building-project-drawings.

DebunkTheBIM

should be easy and straight forward. It is not, firstly because of the sheer number of drawings that are needed to be opened (or even worse, located, then opened), secondly the information is usually highly fragmented, duplicated and uncoordinated throughout the drawing-set. Let’s for the moment accept that for the immediate future we are stuck with 2D PDF (soft) prints of drawings provided by consultants.

The lost dimension

DebunkTheBIM

Spare a thought for 3D today. It is losing ground even before it got really established. Somehow, it’s no longer cool to do ‘just 3D’. It is not BIM, they say. Does not count. It has to be 4, 5, 6D. (oh, I despair when people keep hopping from one D to the next as if they were piano keys to tap); You go BIM shopping, and it is no longer on the menu, at least not without the (just as despised by me) ‘clash detection’ tacked onto it.
