Last night I spoke at the NAWIC Greater Phoenix Chapter 98 on “Web 2.0, LinkedIn & Social Networking: How to Get Noticed & Hired off the Net” This is an educational opportunity that I will offer via webinars in the near future. I was recently asked if I had any good how-tos for organizing information in Evernote. Evernote is a software program/service that is used to collect notes and information. The people at Evernote like to call it your “extra brain.” But if you dump everything into Evernote, it may be hard to find it later if you are using a simple keyword search.

Most contracting firms have used Webex or Go2meeting either by inviting or being invited to an on-line seminar or web conference. There are many other players in this marketplace like Intercall and Skype. Yes I said Skype, the free video calling that Oprah promotes and the game show Millionaire uses to call an expert. . So did you know that Skype 4.0 (and subsequent releases) has video conferencing available with screen sharing?

I just presented a seminar to the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) Valley of the Sun Chapter in Phoenix today. Turns out that most construction firms, while using Microsoft Exchange Server , have not begun implementing a records retention plan concerning email. Furthermore even some of the larger firms have yet to turn on journaling in Exchange and implement an automated archiving of email with an application server like EMC SourceOne or appliance like Arcmail.

But there are many we shouldn’t be wasting our time on. In recessionary times our firms’ mantras tend to shift from niche, niche, niche to diversify, diversify, diversify.

Three straight months of apparent stabilization in the American Institute of Architects' Architecture Billings Index did not lead to an uptick, after all. Instead, the AIA reported this morning that the June ABI rating was 37.7, down more than five points from the 42.9 rating in May. This score indicates a continued overall decline in demand for design services as any score above 50 indicates an increase in billings.

It's going to sound like I'm complaining, but let's just call this an observation. Revit MEP has a tab in the ribbon called Architect, so does Revit Structure. It weird to me that there is no Electrical tab, no HVAC tab, or no Plumbing tab. A Fire Protection and Technology tab would be welcome too. Just so you Revit developers know, people in the MEP world almost never do all disciplines and never all at once.

It brought us President Richard Nixon. And in Vietnam, 1968 brought us the Tet Offensive – a series of military engagements engineered by America’s enemies to demonstrate the futility of trying to dr

'“Billy Mays here, for Oxy-Clean.” Wow, we won’t hear those words again, unless his near clone of a son, Billy Mays Jr. does it. At the moment, unlikely. Those of you in our Coaching Group have heard me laud Mays’ show, “Pitchmen”, regularly due to the background of how products were positioned, priced, and pitched. A fascinating introspection into the world of influence on a mass level, quite applicable on the individual level.
