Revit will not display Grids that are not perpendicular to the view cut plane. Revit developers chose this because they preferred not to convey ambiguity with important datum elements. A way to work around this involves a generic model family that contains simple lines in plan to provide something to locate properly in a view. It then uses a symbolic line drawn in the Front Elevation to act as a "Grid Line".
I was browsing through the ample pages of the National BIM Standard produced by NIBS and came across a thing called the Capability Maturity Model. It's a spread sheet for determining how much you are, ah. BIMing and what is minimum BIM. You can download the Minimum BIM spreadsheet here. It is complex, but all the information you need to start is in the spread sheet itself.

'Article and text NOT by Joe the Plumber (I did this only for the Google rankings. A marketing lesson already.) My teenage son just got an earful (perhaps two) about having good judgment. “We’re just a product of our choices,” I said, trying not to call attention to any of mine. He’s driving now, which causes me to squirm even as I write the line. We gave him a Driving Contract, which is required for modern day “with-it” parents.
I will be attending AU yet again (my third time). I'm looking forward to a couple of things already. On Monday there is a "Design Computation Symposium" being hosted by Autodesk and the AEC solutions division it will be chaired by Robert Aish. This should be very interesting as Robert worked for Bentley helping to develop Generative Components, now he is working with Autodesk.

Welcome to the Business Facilities Blog. Friday, October 24, 2008. Pity the fool. When Alan Greenspan presided over the Federal Reserve for 18 years, he periodically appeared before Congress to mutter some ethereal bromides about the state of the U.S. economy. Greenspans pronouncements were greeted as Yoda-like pearls of wisdom. Every mumbled word from this financial deity was reverentially parsed ad nauseum by a herd of financial analysts; every time he raised his eyebrows and creased those sha

So, I've recently (6+ months) been busy working on designing a house with my wife. Of course, we're using Revit, though I can't claim that we've done anything revolutionary. Our 2,800 sq ft house is a 60mb file. I think I've modeled a little too much detail :). Enjoy some of the 2009 renderings.
'From BusinessBuilder.com - "There are some businesses that continue to thrive during economic down times, mostly because they offer products and services that are always necessary or in demand. These businesses are recession-proof. But many make missteps that cause even their own decline…” As a contractor, you’re taught to almost hate the word “commodity”.
Gas prices may have fallen in the past few weeks, and the stock market may be showing signs of a turnaround, but those indicators are not reflected in the American Institute of Architects' Architecture Billings Index (ABI). The ABI fell sharply in September, dropping more than six points. As a leading economic indicator of construction activity, the ABI shows an approximate 9- to 12-month lag time between architecture billings and construction spending.

Hello again, Another issue I found while running the education session last week was dealing with the results of a new insert in an existing wall. When you place something like a door into an existing wall object, lines for the door, show up in your existing floor plan views, and there is a quasi selectable "infill" object. I also do not remember seeing this behavior in previous versions of Revit.

So I realize I've been lapse on my posting of late. Mostly because I haven't much I'm in a position to share. That said. I was recently running a week of education based on our new curriculum and we (the class and I) ran into a really odd error that we had not seen previously. Specifically the class was focused on Phasing in Revit. We were going through how you can add a door to an existing wall.
After nine years, New York State has completed a study of the possible alternatives for repair/upgrade/replacement of the Tappan Zee Bridge over the Hudson River. This is just the completion of the study of the possible alternatives. It does not pick the preferred alternative or accomplish any of the actual design or construction needed to upgrade this aging bridge This is apparently what our society now is satisfied with for performance.
As the credit crises progresses, some of the “hardship” stories tell a story far different from the perception. Some of these problems are simply a failure of supposedly responsible individuals not following long established and fundamental financing practices. One of the basic rules in financing any purchase is that you match the length of the financing to the usable life of the assets.
One of the provisions in the recent TARP (more commonly referred to as the Wall Street bailout package) legislation is a new provision enabling you as an employer to pay certain qualified benefits to encourage your staff to bicycle to work. You can pay up to $300 per year (total) based on the number of “qualified months” (to be defined) an employee uses their bicycle to commute to and from work.
