Are your room tags not working? Maybe the new room tool could use a little explaining. It sure needed explaining to me. 1. The cut plane (orange) of your floor plan view range must cut through ALL the rooms you want to tag in that view. Setting the proper cut plane height is especially critical if you have a split level project. 2. If your cut plane is below the lower limit of a room, tags in that room may only display a ?
We sent out 3 families specified using our new outline spec to a contract firm. We recieved their first pass at creating the families, and additional questions/clarifications. In general we are happy with what we have received. There are a couple of instance where they either did not carefully read the specification, ignored it, or mis-understood. There were several more instances however where we either did not clearly write our spec, or we had contradictory information, or we assumed that cert
Kelly Swa has recently Started his own ABS - Revit Systems Blog. Check it out here. Bucking the Systems Now, the really cool thing is that Kelly is teaching an online AUGI class on parametric parts this August. I highly suggest you sign up for this one, because I can't think of something more complex to learn on your own. The same link below will allow you to sign up for my class in September on creating block-based parts.
The Korte Company’s current renovation project for The Boeing Company includes a revitalization and remodeling of the former Desloge Mansion, which will be converted to a meeting and conference room facility. The typical gridlock image is of being stuck in your automobile in a traffic system that has bogged down because it cannot handle the volume of traffic. You feel helpless because you have to use the car, but it's not getting you where you want to go. You are locked into a dysfunctional system. I use the term “gridlock” in your home to refer to a similar situation: you are locked into using the electrical power grid because it seems you have no choice, and if you look at the big picture, the syst

Two tools some beginners aren't aware of are the Anchor Symbol and Pin Position Tools. Draw three walls, in plan view, parallel to eachother. Dimension the distances between each wall with one dimension string. And set the two lengths EQ. Now delete the dimension. You'll get the warning message "A Dimension with Lock and/or EQ Constraints is being deleted.
So its been awhile since I've created a post. Architecture is like that, it tends to suck up your time. :) The good news is that we've done some very interesting things recently. We've written an in house specification for family creation. It is written in the same way as an outline spec for building design and construction. There are numerous "fill in the blanks" where information specific to the family you need can be filled in by the spec writer.
Last December I posted an article on how to create electrical device styles. Quite often these styles will have tags that need to rotate with the device. Let's say I have a pull station that is represented by a circle with the letter "F" in it. I got a call from a user that had created some styles like this that seemed to work great until they rotate the style.

Think of all the animals who dig into the ground to find refuge, comfort, security. Their ancestors discovered millennia ago that the earth could provide all of that, free for the digging. We humans have done this too, at times, but we tend to forget the benefits, preferring to follow the trend of building on the surface. What the animals know is that the earth can shelter them from the extremes of temperature, from the wind and sun and snow.
Robert of Philadelphia, PA works for an office that has written an in house specification for family creation. Very interesting read. Revit Standardization: Family Specs.
We have a very large residence that requires an overall coordination plan at 1/8" scale and 5 individual quadrants at 1/4" scale because a complete 1/4" scale plan isn't going to fit on a 30x42 sheet. Well after placing the electrical outlets that come with Revit we noticed that in plan view the outlet symbol doesn't scale when you change the floor plan scale from 1/4" to 1/8".
If your office is like ours then perhaps you do a lot of remodel projects. One way to teach new users about phases and phase filters is to setup your project template with separate Existing and New Construction Floor plan views already setup (ie. 1st Floor Existing, 1st Floor Proposed, 2nd Floor Existing, 2nd Floor Proposed, etc). With phase specific views already established a new user can better grasp the phase and phase filter concepts.
Construction projects are high-stakes operations where even minor inefficiencies can lead to costly delays, safety concerns, and budget overruns. Managing risk in construction has always been a challenge, but as projects grow in complexity, traditional methods no longer cut it. Enter Digital Transformation - a game changer approach that replaces inefficiency with AI-powered analytics, real-time monitoring, and automated workflows to proactively manage risk.
A lot of people post wishlists on their blogs. Here's my contribution: Speed. Revit can be too slow for many users. Wall intersections still need a little improving when phases are applied. Right now when a demo'd wall, new wall, and existing wall intersect at a "T" junction the intersection doesn't clean up in all phases. Building Pads are not phase aware but should be Schedules should be able to reference window sill/head/jamb details.
You might notice that wall patterns disappear when you're switching between Coarse, Medium, and Fine detail levels. Let's say you want to show your view (plan/section) in Coarse detail level: To edit the pattern select the wall. go to the wall's properties. and Edit/New. Here you can change the Coarse Scale Fill Pattern parameter. Now let's say you've switch your view to Medium or Fine detail level: To edit the pattern select the wall. go to the wall's properties. and Edit/New. edit the structur
ABS has had the ability to hold and modify engineering data in space objects since 2005. The ABS interface greatly improves your ability to design, zone and control spaces in a building as opposed to manually typing this information into your HVAC calulation software. The magic takes the form of a gbXML file that holds the design data. It can be exported from ABS (and Revit Systems) and imported into some HVAC software.

The Korte Company began work on a design-build project for a mini storage facility that will include both a 24,700 square foot tilt-up office building as well as a number of manufactured storage buildings that will total 130,000 square feet. Located at 9225 W. Flamingo Road, the $6,230,000 facility is expected to be completed in the fall of this year.
I have been getting a lot of feed back regarding Revit Systems and ABS, so it's safe to say I will be discussing them both at length for the foreseeable future. Today's post is simply a look at how they compare by major features. As you review them, you may notice the features in Revit Systems go deeper into the actual engineering of a building than ABS ever has.
You can now get 3D content from Google in the form of SketchUp files. Revit 9 supports the importing of SketchUp files. There's not a lot of content yet but I'll be watching this.
The Korte Company has begun the mass grading and preparatory work for the new construction of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Hall. The Korte Company will begin construction on the 800-seat capacity assembly hall this month with a scheduled completion of December of 2006. The site masterplan includes a 2,000-seat capacity church, making it the largest suburban church in the Diocese of Las Vegas.

Our family library has grown considerably and we were tired of seeing "THIS IS A ONE TIME UPGRADE PROCESS ONLY" every time we opened a family file that was saved in Revit 8.1. Well, Autodesk has a Family Upgrade Utility for upgrading all of your old family files to the new version. Make sure you backup your library before trying this. This also doesn't work over a network so you'll have to copy your library to your local harddisk before executing the procedure.
